From what I can see, it sucks, but that's only because the image doesn't come through :)

My personal experience with hybrids is it's a lot more fun at low levels, and quickly becomes very difficult to maintain, particularly if it's a combat hybrid. And a mixed hybrid (2 tradeskills + 1 combat, or 2 trade, 2 combat) is nearly impossible.

There is only one hybrid I know who is successful. Guy by the name of IceStorm, he's a RES/CST hybrid, and has someone managed to retain enough skill to hunt. He is (or is close to being) capped, and has never borked any of the E's I've given to him. (been a long time since I used him for RES though) Oddly enough, he also does this with his LE still in. Admitedly he makes a run out to an op any time he needs to res or cst, but he's still damn successful.

I think it's pretty safe to say that a combat hybrid is never going to be as effective in PvP as an individual that has focused all their appropriate points into a single combat type. I'm also beginning to believe that the same is true for tradeskiller/combat hybrids (1 high level trade focus + 1 high level combat focus), although the differences won't be quite as pronounced until you get into an Op war, and you start wishing you had dumped that extra 20 points of RES into your Psi-Use ;)

In the interest of fairness, I think Droners are unfairly balanced in the regard of having pseudo-hybrid setup, we need far less WPW than other classes need Wep Lore, or Psi Use. It nerfs our combat rating a bit, but not so much that it really matters. I'm not complaining though, droners get the short end of the stick just about everywhere else.

All of that being said, I must say that I'm a bit disappointed that a hybrid can't go toe to toe with a pure runner in PvP. I think if you put in the time to learn how to do it well, it shouldn't matter, but it seems NC relies too much on the numbers to make this feasible.

I have to disagree, I've seen successfull monk PPU+APU hybrids, there balanced out more but still powerfull if you know how to play them, not to mention if you find a way to balance them, I've given many go's at the setups of hybrids and I tell ya, its the hardest thing to do. Skill points are easy till you get to the point of what implants you want to use ;) and have to decide if you want to have an edge in defense or an edge in offensive powers.
Offcourse there is switching armours but one cannot realy do this in the middle of a fight and thus its only an extra bonus for entering a fight and should not be counted into the setup.

your picture is broken syn so I can't say if I think its a good setup :x

PPU/APU hybrids are definately the first that I would try. It makes a lot more sense than trying a Pistol/Rifle hybrid. There are also complimentary hybrids, like a PE Pistol/PPU combo.

Either way, I think the skill of the player would have to be very high to make a PPU/APU hybrid (or even complimentary hybrids) feasible in PvP. My first monk was a PPU/APU hybrid, focused more on APU, and in PvP against similarly ranked runners I just couldn't deliver the damage necessary, although I lived a bit longer. The balance of NC is skewed very much towards giving the average player a fighting chance with a "pure" class in PvP.

Once again, this postulation goes completely out the window when you have a really good player. :)

I know syntax is talking about monk hybrids, but I've been thinking about making a tradeskill/combat hybrid PE. I've seen someone cap a libby and manage to be a decent CST that seemed to have that magic touch when it cam e to slottage. Every monk I've seen training lately Is going hybrid, which is discouraging me from doing the same. Anyways, what you should try to get is enough PPU to use Holy deflector, and 110+ apu. Don't go overboard with either, as PPW is where you should be putting most. Two points of PPW roughly equals one point of APU/PPU, and it doesn't negate the damage on either. Also, 2 points of APU/PPU, almost counters 1 point of their opposite. If someone can cap Holy energy halo and still have decent blessed PPU spells, then that would be the optimum setup. Good luck.
