Ventrilo v3.0.0 is being released sometime on Wednesday, November 14,
2007.
This new version requires a new client be downloaded and installed on
every user's PC or MAC. The client is available at
http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php
Here are some of the added features in Ventrilo v3.0.0:
1) Multiple CODECS: You can now have a different CODEC for each
channel. You can have your server set to GSM if you wish, and then set a
channel up just for another CODEC (like SPEEX). We do not restrict the CODEC
you choose to use nor to we charge more for the use of the higher end
CODECS like many others do.
2) Overlay Support: An Overlay is a mechanism by which the program can
present data to the user on the display screen that normally would not
be visible during such situations such as when the user is playing a
game in full screen mode.
3) Advanced User Access Rights: You now have more "power" over your
server.
4) Guest MOTD: You can force a MOTD on all guests that enter your
server. The Guest MOTD is only sent to those users who do not have an
account created on this server. It is always displayed at login as well,
unlike the regular MOTD which is only displayed if it changes or if the
Server Properties has dictated to always be displayed.
5) Complaints: Users can now lodge a complaint about a user on a
server. Complaints will only be visible by those users who have been given
access rights to receive complaints. This option is available only if you
have been given access rights to send complaint messages.
6) Integration: This feature enables or disables integration with one
of the selected media player programs listed in the menu (iTunes, WinAmp
and Windows Media Player). When enabled the Ventrilo client will
periodically poll the specified application for details about what it is
currently playing: song, artist, track, etc. This information will be sent
out to all of the other users on the server to see and it will be
displayed in quotes after the transmitting users name and after their
comment if there is one.
7) Ventrilo Rank List: If an account is assigned a rank then all other
users will see the abbreviated form of the rank in front of the users
account name in the main Ventrilo window. Each rank is assigned a Level
value between 0 and 100. If the associated rank level is greater then
or equal to a channels "Transmit Rank Level" and the channels "Voice
Mode" is Queued or Muted then when the user joins that channel they will
be automatically un-muted. Whereas, anyone with a Rank Level below the
channels Transmit Rank Level will be automatically muted. A Channel or
Server Admin can still manually unmute a muted user so that they can
transmit.
Voice Targets: Voice Targets are virtual channels that only certain
accounts are allowed to receive-from and/or transmit-to. You must have
an account on the server in order to be part of a target group. If you
receive a voice stream from another user that is part of a voice target
group that you are a member of and they are transmitting to just the
voice target group, rather then to a channel like normal, then the icon
of the person transmitting will be displayed as a Green "G" for group
target stream.
9) Commanding Targets: Commanding Targets are basically virtual
channels for sending text based commanding messages that can be spoken using
Text-To-Speech and/or displayed using the Video Overlay features of the
program. The primary use is for one or more people to send text
oriented commanding messages to a larger group of people of a specific target
group. These text messages can be entered manually into the Commanding
Targets window or bound to a series of Bindable keys / buttons just
like the TTS and Wave File binds.
I have no idea about THN server, but my host for the SkullCult vent is forcing the upgrade 1 week after the release.
Meaning ALL users must upgrade. i expect, but not sure, that all server hosting companies will do this
