ok as some of you know my comp has been a total bitch

It restarts on its own (sometimes over and over even before it hit the
windows welcome screen)

When im trying to install SP2 it says the file is currupt no matter where i DL it
from

I sometimes get weird errors talking about a prob with memory , ram or hd i
dunno lol

anyone have even a small idea how i can fix this other than a format (done
that 4 times today)

Hmm, pass. The only things I can think of.

1. Is your system virus free?
2. Is your power supply powerful enough and upto scratch?
3. Can you post the name of the corrupt DLL and the full messages you get.

P.S. You want me to move this thread to the Cafe forum, since a lot more people will be able to see it there.

1. Yup always got AVG running in the background, its the first thing i install after i format...then i do the windows updates.

2. er, i think so....i blew one up awhile ago...using a 200w or a 300w aaint sure lol

3. when it happens again sure.

P.S yar, would be cool dude.

200w ? ok first thing you do now screw open your comp and watch what psu you got.. and what kind of comp you have ? proc speed / vid / ram ? so we know how much watts you should have.. but can tell you now 200w is not gonna cut it.. i have like 3 250 watt psu's laying around from age old comps :p

for pretty new systems ( last 2 years ) i would go for a 350watt + psu at least.

then if your psu is ok i would say its the mobo since your getting problems with anything.. did a error checking on the hd already ? see if it got a large ammount of bad clusters etc.

as you reinstalled 4 times already i doubt its a software problem unless the cd you got is broken ;x

just orderd a new mobo for my bro's comp its giving the ghost blue screens all around ps2 port broke a while ago ( he had to buy a usb mouse ) and now getting problems with blue screens not booting sometimes it doesn't even run as far as the hardware checks.

Lob us a dxdiag dump into here, and run something like memtest86 to check your RAM. 400W i'd spec as a minimum for any PC.

350 watt should be enuff with ease to run that system. my bro and dad have about the same setup and have that to so.. unless you have 5 hd's and 6 optical drives ;)

tho you should install dx 9.0c.. but doubt that would be your problem hehe.

i'm gonna start thinking it is your mobo tho.. maybe see if there is a bios update ?

i would check for viruses again, try using more than one scanner.. alot of them are free of the web scan, do yourself a favor and ctrl+alt+del and look at the proccesses to see anything out of place. you can google each one to figure out what they do and if they should be there.

that and did you install any new hardware lately or get a new mobo/just install windows or any other major installations? if you did i would try taking the hardware out/checking hardware compatibility/revert any changes. for the changes think long and hard and question everyone who's used the system. even a software update or hardware update could have done this or maybe you just have a corrupt os. your best bet would be to check the hardware first and if everythings fine make some backups and reinstall the os. try unplugging hardware you dont need like burners, extra drives etc etc, and seeing if it will boot fine, or if you have extra hardware try replacing mandatory components, etc etc.

Yea i did like 4 formats last night...which was fuckin boring all i wanted to was play ma apu lol

think i may of fixed it tho....couldnt get a memtest thinger workin...but G
said he had probs with Farcry...turned out one of his ram chips was all
fucky. So i took one out and tried to reinstall and it installed YAY (btw tried
to install it before i took a chip out also didnt work)...After that i DL's SP2
and it Worked!

So im thinking all i need to get is another ram chip to replace the fucked

I think I found the main problem ;)

Anyhow, try this:

Download http://www.memtest86.com/memtest86-3.2.iso.zip

Unzip

Burn to CD

Boot from that CD

See if it turns up any error messages. Leave it running a full test suite. Might take a day or so.

I thought this could have been caused by a faulty PSU, RAM, motherboard, the only way to be sure is to test these components with another computer/set of hardware.

Have you checked that nothing is overheating in your computer? Overheating RAM can and will make your PC restart (as will CPU), but this is only an issue if it is under heavy load - not on boot.

Assuming you know what you're doing, I would strip the whole PC down, remove any dust, take out RAM and ensure that it is properly seated when you reinsert it. Check all electrical connections/cables are as they should be.

I hardly think this is a virus problem, it is either a malfunctioning PSU/or piece of hardware or a faulty connection.
