Anyone know any good BitTorrent clients?

I don't like Azureus because of spelling and problems with networking..
BitTornado only does one download at a time

Anyone use any good ones?

PS: Before you ask, no it's not for d/ling the new Dreamweaver, it's for d/ling legit gig recordings of R.E.M. from my own site :p

Erm Azureus? I had no problems with it, networking wise.

One thing you do have to do is forward the ports from the firewall to your BitTorrent client PC.

If you have a decent firewall/router that supports UPnP, then Azureus will set up the ports and drop them, when it's running.

Brammers, with regard to your sig, there is no apostrophe in "hovertecs". Not in that context, anyway.

That had been bugging me for a while.

I have a decent firewall in that it comes with UPnP disabled by default.

UPnP is a huge security risk, don't use it! I've just manually specified some random ports (7583 for example) that aren't used by anything.

www.grc.com ? Has tools reccomended by the FBI (UnPlug&Pray) that let you disable UPnP on Windows, instead of letting the firewall stop it. Freeware, 22kb. Oh, and yes, I have got a router with integrated firewall, but I also have a seperate hardware firewall that sits between the rest of the network and my PC. 8)

Bittornado does as much as you want, it just uses multiple screens for each download, basicly, its the same as the iexplore buildin download system but then for torrents. Azureus is just as good and I can see why so many people prefer it, its more userfriendly to. Anyway any problems you might have will be because of your firewall settings or version or firewall code (prefer iptables - *nix based os)

Define "huge security risk". It's probably a huge security risk with someone who doesn't know what they are doing, who doesn't have a virus scanners. The risk assesment for UPnP here for my network, is probably just as high as turning on my PC and playing Neocron!

I'm off to look for exploits at 127.0.0.1 now! :D

OR

If your paranoid start using a firewall like *nix 'ipconfig' (or the older, slower 'IPCHAINS') where you are in total utterly control and know 100% exactly what rules are used.

To make it paranoid - set all ports from the outside to drop, keep all open for the inside, let established connections go trough (so connections YOU make will always be availeble on any port) and then re-open and tunnel ports you really need, because of certain software incompatebility with firewalls (like some games, torrents, p2p connections, etc.), towards the pc you want it used.

Total control (unless the os code about ports is bugged at its very core, which is extreemly unlikely).

If your even more paranoid, install/use (A) windows firewall and set it to close everything with the exception of certain programs... making those ports closed to unless you run that exact application.

The result: You do not exist, nobody can reach you unless you asked them to from your side, only vulnerability: troyans you download (&run) who "dial" out themselves and manage to get beyond your virusscan and windows firewall withoud you knowing. [like the upcoming range of root viruses]
