Yeah I have the same sort of setup...Problem is some programs always store their settings in their directories and not with the user settings.

Ok windows 2k installed. Tried to run the service pack from the network. However our samba domain didn't like the non-serviced packed Windows 2k and told it to get lost. :/ Normally it's Windows telling our Samba server is talking crap.

Try making a SP4 slipstreamed installation CD?

I was thinking that... Got another box due for a rebuild as well. Is there a howto anywhere on creating slipstreamed CD's?

P.S. SP4 sorted the Samba issues.

Didn't know that was out. My next PC is going to be a AMD 64 of some sort. So how bad, or good is it?

for all intents and purposes... its standard windows XP, with added features that currently sweet fuck and all seems to support O_o

AFAIK, WinXP64 istnt going to be out for another ~6 months or so (at least). Got a AMD64 CPU myself, but really havent bothered playing with a 64bit OS. Guess I have to give it a go some time in the near future when I have time.

About the SP4 slipstream, I'm not sure about a how-to.. slipstreaming itself is easy, just run the SP4 package with a "-s" switch and it writes itself over the standard i386 directory, but then you have to burn a custom installation CD and include the CD boot image, which should be provided by MS. Just made a custom XP CD a few days back with SP1 and SATA drivers, but never done a w2k CD.

I'll dig something up.. there is an MS command line tool somewhere in the inet that makes an ISO image out of boot image and the installation files..

edit: O looky what I found.. http://old.bink.nu/bootcd/

I didnt read it thru too thoroughly, but seems like there are detailed instructions how to make it with Nero.

There's so little left of my XP folder that i've stopped calling it Windows XP :D from a total of 1.5GB total beforehand, only 500MB remains. Slipstreamed and streamlined, and after doing the mods I got a 45% increase in speed.

Might go to 2k but it's not worth the effort and I don't like the classic style skin :) it's not worth the effort tbh :p

There's some sweet guides on neowin.net for tweaking XP.
