Ok guys, I did contact Snowcrash a few minutes while ago. (I was hoping to do it earlier) there is a statement in the works, so keep an eye on the official forums.

Also some players are saying the servers are back up, can anyone comfirm this?

Edit: Guess not - https://launcher.neocron.com/ is not reachable.

Altho i dont play NC

One fears the bad news in the statement. While i dont believe the game will die, i do believe it will be some apology some lines of bullshit saying they dont have the man power to resolve the problem.

And either is going to be offline for 1-2 weeks (giving kk's timetable that will be 1 month)

Or i suppose after typing this i have come to the conclusion they could close the servers due to this "malfunction"

Here is what got posted up by Snowcrash from http://forum.neocron.com/announcement.p ... mentid=381

As previously explained, we have encountered severe hardware malfunctions on our main account server which is used for account management and all affiliated data (e.g. the launcher website). Due to unfortunate circumstances several hard drives had been severely damaged, including the backup drives, and therefore it was not possible to apply any backups in order to quickly recover and continue operation. Critical payment information have not been compromised as these information are not stored on our servers but on the servers of the according payment provider.

In the time since the outage began our service provider has engaged a specialist team to recover the data from the affected drives. That process is nearly complete and we will be able to check the state of the server today. Without making any promises, we are trying to have the servers back online by tomorrow afternoon.

We are fully aware of your displeasure at the servers being unavailable for these past few days and we are deeply sorry for this inconvenience. Despite industry standard safety measures it happened that multiple critical hard drives were seriously damaged; a one in a million chance.

Unfortunately it is not possible to apply free game time as compensation but in order to compensate you for the lost days the Neocron Gamemaster team will prepare some in-game surprises once the servers are available again.

Edit: Beaten by Selendor! :D

About the latest announcement http://forum.neocron.com/announcement.php?f=197&announcementid=381

I made a guess that this was the issue on Friday but why it took KK a week to make this statement instead of the vague hints they gave last week pretty much says they havn't learned anything about customer service since the release of NC.

it happened that multiple critical hard drives were seriously damaged; a one in a million chance.

While I first thought this was a preposterous explanation, if the hard drives were from the same batch then its possible they had the same inherent fault in them, it was odd that the server seemed to degrade slowly though.

Never heard of this happening, of course this means they didn't have off-server backups in place (ie tape, mirroring), but lets gloss over that for now.

Without knowing the facts, I would have to suspect that the specialist data recovery people were not called in until Monday, or the disks had to be sent to them or something. It can't take 6 days to recover a disk, no matter how large!

So, we shall wait and see.

Can you smell that?

Narvana? nope.... Lie's? maybe.... Bullshit.... ding ding ding we have a winner!

The only good news out of the whole statement, was an ETA of tomorrow afternoon. Even the news of compensation by special means ingame, doesn't fill me with excitement, because only a limited few may get it, if they are online at the same time as GM's.

Flooding, fire, or electircal issues at the datacentre seems more likley a cause for the "multiple simultaneous critical failure" we seem to have here.

Or the air-con in the datacentre failing. I know of some people who did have an issue with that recently.

One of the air-con units in the server packed up on one of the hottest days of the year. The fans in the servers screamed their nuts off all day, while the tech department had a job trying to keep the room cool. In some cases, some of the servers shut down to protect themselves.

My guess is that the backups/backup drives had been corrupted some time ago which had gone unnoticed until needed. Seen that happen actually but anyways hope its up tomorrow and we get some nice items for each of our accounts or characters.

Now back to herding my squig at ebil stunties.

Ok, if we cannot get free days for the downtime, then I would like....

Experiance - x amount per day, say twenty four million per day offline. To be distributed as I see fit, amongst one accounts characters. oh alright, cut that in half.... 12 million per day.

One specific ingame item of my choosing, even if it's a gold pa, per account.

5 million ingame cash.... per account.

This may seem a lot, but is actually less than what I could have achieved, had I been ingame online.

Since I have 2 accounts, it might just stop any bad feelings about loss of playing time.

lol, I have absolutely no faith in KK or its GM spawned "compensation package" they seem to be offering. I don't need ingame items, I have pretty much everything I'll ever need. I give most stuff away to clan members anyway, I don't really think there is anything they could say or do at this point to compensate us sufficiently. You wonder which straw will eventually break the camels back.
