In all fairness - lets give it a proper review. Anybody who has played the game will back me up on this.
The game is incredible - one of the most original story lines ever. It also used to have a good atmosphere, when there were enough people playing to maintain it. The game is hard to get used to, the leveling and learning curve is pretty steep but at the end of it there are only a limited amount of things to do. The development team have been making promises for years to add new content and fix bugs - recently a few bugs have been fixed and the story line has been restarted so it's possible in the near future it could get better.
The are a few fundamental faults with the game - network code and game stability mainly. The game will randomly freeze and crash. Even on the most high end of computer systems you'll be lucky to get more than 70 fps. There are some people in game who're friendly but a lot of them will happily kill you while you're asking for help.
Provided you can use your initiative to learn everything yourself, either by using this website for the guides, or having thick skin and being able to tolerate the occasional abuse when you ask for help, then it's definitely worth a try. When I am in game I quite happily help anybody who is asking for help, for example.
The last thing to bare in mind is that there are very few new players in the game, but because of the linear leveling system it's easy to catch up. It takes a lot of time to level because it's not passive leveling. If you're not doing something in game then you won't get experience. The easiest way to play the game would be to start as Tangent Technologies and find an afterdark member - they're good people and will help you out when they're around.
All in conclusion, it's worth playing for the free trial. If you end up addicted by the end of the trial then go for it, if not, then just forget all about it. Neocron is one of those games that you either love or hate.
