Hosting providers

A little background before I get to my question...

For those who don't know, the Techhaven network website is hosted on a server located in the Pipex datacentre in Nottingham. The server is shared between about 15 other users. However Pipex (Our co-lo provider) in their amazing wisdom have decided to shut the Nottingham data centre down and move all the servers to their Leeds datacentre.

However since most of the users and admin of this server live in the South of England, rather than the North. So traveling to go and fix this server would be a bit of an issue for us. And pipex decided if we was to move the server to their London HEX centre, it would cost me a lot more for less bandwidth.

So in the end, this co-lo provider was recommended. Now my question to anyone here, has anyone heard anything good or bad about BlackCatNetworks? http://www.blackcatnetworks.co.uk/

Not heard much about them... site looks fine though; not sure on pricing comparatively.

I get all the servers I need for my infrastructure via a reseller that provides hardware and maintainence as well as OS installation for a set price; not great for upgrading but stable- if the hardware goes wrong (Hasn't yet :p), they have to fix it, and they refund the month's worth of fees...

I got pissed off with people like FastHosts and 1&1... so I just made my own hosting company :P

Haven't looked at BlackCat's hosting....

I prefere better known hosts usualy, but its obviouse these guys have a good business plan and put alot of work into this, this speaks for them.

What speaks agains them is the relative ease someone private can set up a server park anywhere and call themselves profesional, and even make a living out of doing absolutely nothing (well apart from mainenance which when done right should be severely limited).

In any case, my gut feeling says these guys are worth a shot, that is, if I could find some record of them outside their website. (I have not looked myself, to lazy).

my 2 eurocents :x

Just a quick spammage-

Why does the idea of Brammers posting about the server's future on the server itself strike me as ironic?

Well at the end of the day we gave theses guys a quick email, and they replied within 15 minutes on a Friday afternoon! Anyway, currently the system admins of this server (Which includes me) are discussing new server specs right now.

At some point in the future, the Tech Haven network will move to the new server, which will mean a little downtime. I'll post something more official nearer the time, when we know what we are doing.

Someone had to say it didn't they. :)

P.S. THe new hosting provider gives us more bandwidth, that means I can start adding some new stuff here. However it does not mean you can spam these forums more.

Out of interest, how much BW does THN pull?

I've just had to upgrade one of my customer's accounts to 1TB/month :o

That'll keep whateverstupidgreeknameyourserveriscallednow busy doing something vaguely helpful to mankind!

Wahay! Spammage. Perhaps I should devise an applet to post "Meh" after every single post...

Retrospectively!   That would screw things up!

It's pulling about 1.2gig a month, which is quite a lot considering. What I don't quite understand is why we have people with Wget poking the THN. *Goes to investigate*

Edit: My bad, it's one of my scripts I forgot about.
